We believe it can be useful in many other ways aside from the web, such as for uploading files from a mobile, integrating it with other Twitter applications, etc. That’s why we shared the public API, so that anyone who wants to play around with FileSocial and help us develop improvements or additions to it would have a simple tool available to them.

For those of you that have an iPhone and need to upload pictures, videos and audio to FileSocial, now it’s easy. The Tweet Media application which allows for uploading files to Twitter from iPhone now includes FileSocial! It’s as straightforward as taking a picture, recording a video or audio or selecting one from a library and it will automatically be published in FileSocial and Twitter.
You can download the application from the iTunes Store (further information here). We still have a few promotional codes so you can get Tweet Media for free. Just write a comment to ask us for it :)
To configure Tweet Media for automatic uploading of your files to FileSocial, just go to “iPhone settings”, search for “Tweet Media” preferences, and select FileSocial as the service for each category.  It’s really simple!

Taking a huge leap forward, we’ve integrated document displays and audio and video players into the website. This way it won’t be necessary to download files to see or hear them.

At the moment, supported formats include:

    • ppt
  • for audio:
    • mp3
  • for video:
    • mp4
    • flv

We’re working toward making possible the direct display of more formats in FileSocial without needing to download files so as to offer all our users greater convenience and security.

FileSocial Uploader is a desktop application based on Adobe Air that’s going to make your lives a little easier. Well, maybe not your life in general, but surely exchanging files through Twitter is going to seem much more simple and straightforward. Now it’s as easy as dragging the file to be shared onto the Uploader and it will automatically upload to FileSocial. Fast, right?

It’s still a preliminary, beta version, but we’ve wanted to launch it as soon as possible to see what you think about it: how it works, what needs improvement, what functions you miss the most… Tell us anything you come up with.

One of our greatest challenges has been to implement a large part of the improvements suggested over the last few months through your feedback. We’re thrilled with the results, and hope that you’ll like them as much as we do. These changes make FileSocial an even more attractive and usable service, without losing the first version’s simplicity that was so well-liked.

We wish to point out something you’ve been asking for practically since FileSocial’s first introduction. Our API has just been published :) Now any software developer can easily integrate FileSocial in one’s own service, or even create plugins, web applications, interactive widgets, etc. What’s more, if you’re familiar with the Twitpic API, it’ll be even simpler. The methodologies are quite similar.

And, the innovations don’t end here. In the next few days we’re going to surprise you with a FileSocial Desktop Uploader. This application will allow you to upload files directly from your desktop by simply dragging the file you want on to the Uploader. Easy, right?

We trust in the capabilities of Cloud Computing, but the truth is that, probably due to bad luck, we have suffered some technical problems for reasons beyond our control.

After analyzing the situation and trying out various options, we have decided to move to a new server over which we have control, in order to guarantee a quality service to our users.

We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused. We can only assure you that we are working hard to keep FileSocial stable, and to provide you with the very best file exchange service through Twitter.

Update: Today at 09:00 hours GMT we have moved FileSocial from Amazon to a new server which will provide you with a better,  faster, more direct service. We expect the DSN to be completely propagated within a few hours and the service will once again be open to everyone. All your files and the URLs, as well as comments, will remain intact.

Now you can share your files on Twitter with FileSocial :)
